Classes and Events

“One thing that frustrated me as a new widow was that there were plenty of opportunities, it seemed, to sit around and share sad stories and pass around the Kleenex box.  But at a certain point, I wanted to be pointed forward- to be helped back on my feet and learn ways of coping with my “new normal.”  But that was hard to find!”

Liane Laurion, Director, Widow Services, widowed in 2017

Wings for Widows now fills that need to move forward—and the opportunity came as a result of Covid in 2020! Now, every other Wednesday evening you can tune in to our Building Community Speaker Series via Zoom.  We have speakers with expertise in grief counseling, self-care, personal coaching and many other areas.  This speaker is then followed by one of our coaches or other volunteers to present financial, legal, and other practical topics to attendees. The hour-long call pulled many out of isolation and provided them a safe community in which they could relax, share, and learn.

In addition, last fall we began offering enrichment classes. These virtual classes focus on various topics by savvy presenters who are true subject-matter experts. Most classes run six-weeks and there is usually a nominal charge for materials, printing, and mailing. Our enrichment classes continue to build a unique community of men and women in transition, but full of hope and confident that their future holds promise and fulfillment. Classes are normally offered once in the winter and again in the fall.
