We help newly-widowed men and women navigate the financial trauma of loss. There is NO COST for our financial advice or coaching services.
The most stressful life event is losing a spouse, and nearly 3,000 women become widows every day. Nearly half had children living in the home at the time of loss.
Nearly 70% of widows and widowers said that becoming the sole financial decision-maker was the top financial challenge of widowhood.
More than 70% of married women will experience widowhood. Of those, one-third will be diagnosed with a new mental or physical health issue within the first year.
“I’m scared. I just lost the one person in the world I trusted. The love of my life - my entire support system - is gone. I know my world has changed forever, but I can’t grasp what that all means. I’m so sad and life is so uncertain, but I can’t grieve right now. I have children and must be strong. I know I have many administrative and financial things to do. I’ve seen the lists of what I’m supposed to do, but nobody tells you how to do it. Where do I even start? I need advice I can trust, but I don’t know where to get it. I feel so alone. It’s all just so overwhelming.”
Sound familiar? If there were ever a time in your life you needed to ask for help, it might be now.
I am so glad I reached out. They helped me to wrap my arms around the enormity of my situation and move forward with confidence. I can’t thank them enough. Such a great resource!

Financial coaching is the process of working with a trained professional who collaborates with and guides their clients to reach their financial goals.
The process is personalized and non-judgmental. Financial coaches provide encouragement, support, and advice to help people make informed decisions and improve their financial situation. But not all financial coaches are alike; some, like ours, are elite.
I can now say I’m done dealing with paperwork and have the confidence that my future is secure financially. I highly recommend Wings for Widows to every widow, regardless of financial circumstances. In a time of overwhelming grief, it’s such a comfort to have help dealing with the necessary parts of life.
Our financial coaches are licensed financial advisors, and all have earned their CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ credentials.
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification is the standard of excellence in financial planning. CFP® professionals meet rigorous education, training, and ethical standards, and are committed to serving your best interests at all times. Visit here to learn more.
Our process matches pro bono CFP® coaches from around the country with new widows. All coaching is virtual, which allows trusted family members or friends to join you. All services are offered pro bono – you will never be charged for financial coaching.

My coach Melissa was great!
At a time when I was very anxious about what I should be doing to get on the right financial track, Wings for Widows came alongside me. They listened to my concerns and questions and helped me prioritize what needed to be done. My financial counselor was very empathetic and sensitive and did not overwhelm me. It felt like she was a friend from the first time we met. I am very thankful Wings for Widows was there - it was a safety net for me.

Volunteering the past three years with Wings for Widows has helped me move forward in many ways. It is so rewarding helping those who are now walking the path that I’ve been on. I’ve had several roles in the organization, which has helped me learn and grow. And as I move forward, my passion and work are helping move a necessary organization forward. I enjoy the people I work with, because everyone has a heart for our mission and the community we serve.
